St. Jürgen's church is situated high above the eastern banks of Flensburg's firth, where in the Middle Ages there used to be a hospital for those suffering from the plague and leprosy. The church was built in the neo-gothic style between 1904 and 1907 and its outstanding position makes it a striking feature within the cityscape. A narrow steeple towers on the western side, and the interior contains remarkable reliefs showing the birth, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as well as some sculptures of the apostles. The wooden pulpit made by Heinrich Ringeringk dates from 1602. It used to belong to the interior of the Heiliggeistkirche, but was brought here in 1907. Heinrich Sauermann designed the organ, pulpit and gallery in a neo-renaissance fashion to suit the beautiful pulpit.
