World-renowned as a leading research and teaching institution in medicine and engineering, Johns Hopkins University dates back to 1876. Johns Hopkins was the first research university established in the Western Hemisphere and has remained a top-tier school ever since. In fact, Johns Hopkins has produced over 30 Nobel Laureates, the first being President Woodrow Wilson, who belonged to its Class of 1886. The university currently has eight academic divisions and a student body of more than 16,000. The university is particularly well known for its medical school. Since 1902, its headquarters has been the 140-acre (57 hectares) Homewood Campus in Charles Village. Most notable alumni include Paul Rabil, Michael Bloomberg, Woodrow Wilson and Nurul Izzah Anwar.
