A short distance from Newport, set on the River Wye and marking the southern boundary of Offa's Dyke between England and Wales, Chepstow's main attraction is its castle—an imposing, Norman fortress, one of Britain's earliest stone-built castles. When exploring the town look out for the medieval street pattern and the stone town gate which survives along with sections of the original town wall. Chepstow Museum, situated in an 18th-century town house opposite the castle, tells the full story.
