Studded on to the bustling Barker's Pool, this large-capacity stage hall is a popular venue for visiting comedians, singers, bands, plays, and musicals. Complete with columns and a portico, the hall is steeped in history, and is yet a symbol of contemporary art and entertainment. A perfect epitome of Neoclassical architecture, the Sheffield City Hall is home to one of Sheffield's largest organs and a ballroom, among other major halls. Although it faces stiff competition from other more modern Sheffield venues, the hall is conveniently based in the city center and still attracts some very big names. Classical music groups and visiting orchestras also perform regularly here. The seating is on two floors, facing a large stage. The surrounding decor is relatively old-fashioned, with some features dating back to the 1920s, lending the hall quite an atmospheric feel. A bar remains open during some performances.
