Musee cantonal d'archeologie et d'histoire, which is situated on the first floor of the imposing Palais de Rumine on the Place de la Riponne, retraces the most ancient history of the canton of Vaud from the end of the Paleolithic times to the Neolithic era (12,000-2200BC). The exhibition displays several small-scale models together with four slide shows and life-size reconstructions, presented in an innovative way. The Bronze Age (2200-800BC) is depicted by means of a collection of significant objects. The development of civilization accelerated by the emergence of metalwork is also alluded to.Â
