This square was called Piazza Plebiscito in 1860. Like other squares in the city it is not only an obligatory tourist spot, but a meeting place for many locals. It has various buildings from different periods that make up an artistic heritage of the city. These include the Monastery of the Annunziata, San Domenico, Santa Lucia, the Public Fountain, the Church of Mater Domini, and the Ipogeo complex with its underground constructions.
