Everything began in postwar times when a cinemascope-cinema was established in this building with 600 seats. A bizarre mixture of cinema, concerts and sporting events like boxing took place in the modest building in the heart of the city until 1985. Then the Szene-Festival, a sort of alternative to the Salzburg Festival, started with events claiming to change to avant garde and experiment in art, music, theater, concerts, cabaret and above all dance. Events have taken place throughout the year here since 1993. At Szene Salzburg, visitors can experience some of the best shows and programs in performing arts and events covering other cultural arenas.
