The Cuccuru Nuraxi temple is located on a mountain top which is characterized by some small scale terracing. An imposing stairway links the exterior with the tholos of the Hypogean temple. The well, whose depths have still not been properly explored, is about 20 meters (66 feet) deep. Its side walls are covered in stone. On the floor of the tholos you can observe an monolithic arched lintel in sandstone. This lintel is double-edged at the base and is very finely chiselled. It serves to close the tholos off from the well shaft. Careful studies of this site have revealed that it dates back to a period somewhere between the 2nd and 1st Centuries BCE.
