Officially known as Tokyo International Airport, the Haneda Airport was operational in the year 1931 and served as the main operating base for Japan Air Transport. Later, in the year 1945 during US occupation of Japan the airport served as a US base, and finally in the year 1952 it was handed over to the Japanese. Since then the airport complex has expanded and has three terminal buildings as well as a VIP terminal. It boasts of being the second busiest airport in Asia and the third largest air cargo hub in Japan. The airport connects the city of Tokyo to 26 cities in the world and is the operations hub for many major airlines.
