This imposing building was indeed a former tobacco factory and is an enormous red brick building, standing on North Street in Bedminster. The Tobacco Factory is a particularly welcome addition to south Bristol, which until the Tobacco Factory opened did not have a theater space to call its own and is home to two acclaimed theater companies. The latter have been praised for their productions of various Shakespeare plays (often ones neglected by larger companies) in both local and national press. It also plays host to various other traveling companies, comedy performers and is always worth a bet for more off-the-wall and unusual plays and performances. In the basement is a cafe bar where patron of the theater can indulge in some fine cuisine after spending their evening watching a play. It also hots a Sunday market showcasing loads of interesting vintage stuff.
