Some 15 kilometers east of La Guaira, having passed several luxury beach resorts and small coastal towns, you'll be surprised to find an urban type development as big as La Guaira if not bigger. Its name is Carabellada. It was founded at the same time as La Colonia and it is currently a modern tourist resort with the most activity in the Litoral Central area. There are two five star hotels which usually provide accommodation for international air crews, restaurants, night clubs and other businesses. Enjoy a swim in the sea at the amazingly beautiful Caribe beach, which has clear water and clean sand. There is also the Cocos beach, near Avenida La Playa, which is very popular with surfers. Before you go to any of these beaches, make sure they are open, as many of them closed after the natural disaster of December' 99. Local transport from La Guaira is available.
