Dev Diwali, not to be confused with Diwali, is a Hindu festival exclusive to the North Indian city of Varanasi. Also known as Dev Deepavali, this annual festival was first held at the Panchganga Ghat in 1985. Since then, every year on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik, devotees flock to the ancient ghats of the city to mark Lord Shiva's victory over evil with the lighting of thousands of earthen lamps.
