Basant Panchami, also called Vasant Panchami, is a festival celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across South Asia. Held 40 days before the arrival of Spring, it has great significance for multiple reasons. On this day devotees begin preparing for the upcoming Spring season, celebrate the ripening of crops and also honor goddess Saraswati - the goddess of all creative forms and knowledge - through a puja (prayer ritual). People also dress up in yellow-colored clothes and decorate their homes with yellow flowers.
