The Avalanches is an electronic group that formed in 1997 and is primarily known for its critically lauded 2000 debut album, Since I Left You. Though the band went through many incarnations during its formative years, it solidified its sound when it started to incorporate a more sample and electronic intensive style into it sonic foray. After performing a number of high profile live shows at nightclub residencies in the Melbourne area as well as landing opening slots for acts like Beastie Boys, Stereolab and Beck, the group secured a recording contract with the prestigious Australian label Modular Recordings. After releasing its critically lauded, seminal album, Since I Left You, an album which was assembled from approximately 3,500 vinyl samples, the LP managed to make several prominent publications year end lists and raise the group to a prestigious pedestal where The Avalanches has since remained.
