Brian Jonestown Massacre is an experimental rock band that emerged out of San Francisco's burgeoning underground during the early 1990s. With principal songwriter Anton Newcombe at the helm of the project, the band churned out an impressive stream of records starting with its 1995 debut album, Methodrone. Despite turbulent dynamics within the band and a consistently rotating lineup, Jonestown continued to push its craft with each subsequent album and developed a reputation as a modern force of rock and roll with its blues, folk, shoegaze, and psychedelic-infused sound. Although the group never rose to mainstream attention, the band has cultivated a dedicated world-wide following and risen as an underground legend in the same vein as The Velvet Underground.
