HTRK (formerly Hate Rock Trio) were formed in Melbourne, Australia, in 2003. Their debut record, the Nostalgia EP, combines slow and dirty noise rock with Jonnine Standish's smoky vocals, very consciously bringing to mind the movies of David Lynch. HTRK's breakout came in 2009, when the trio released the (considerably more conventional) Marry Me Tonight LP. That album earned them critical accolades, as well as praise from the likes of Sasha Grey and support slots for The Horrors and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Tragically, in March 2010 the band's bassist, Sean Stewart, took his own life. Jonnine Standish and guitarist Nigel Yang decided to continue as a duo, making their second album, WORK (work, work) more electronic.
