The Swansea City football club is from Wales and for the majority of its history, it has remained in the lower divisions of the Football League. From its establishment in 1912, the ‘Swans’ bounced in-and-out of the lower divisions until they were finally promoted to the Premier League in 2011, the first Welsh team to enter. The club’s greatest nemesis is nearby Cardiff FC, in which at times the rivalry becomes quite virulent and there is no such thing as a ‘friendly’ match when they play in the South Wales Derby. The Swans also won the coveted Football League Cup in 2013 and they have qualified for the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup seven different times.
