French chanteuse Isabelle Geffroy, who goes by the pseudonym ZAZ began her career singing in Parisian cabarets and piano bars in Montmarte. With her smoky, enigmatic voice, Geffroy grabbed the attention of producer Kerredine Soltani who was looking to sign a new female jazz artist. Though her debut album "Le Figaro" was met with varying reviews, it established her as a pioneer of acoustic nu-jazz.
