Arguably the most successful Russian football club of the 21st century, Zenit St. Petersburg rise to stardom is somewhat of a fairytale. While the club was founded in 1925, several political and ownership problems prevented the club from reaching the heights it aspired. It won its major major silverware in 1944, but such moments would be few and far between. However a change in ownership in 2005 changed the fortunes of the club forever. Since then the club has gone on to make a mark not just in Russia but also in Europe. Armed with great players and coaches, the team went on to win the Russian Premier League and the Russian Cup several times over the decade. But its greatest achievement was winning the 2008 UEFA Cup Final, beating several European Heavyweights along the way. It then when on to beat the winners of UEFA Champions League - Manchester United, to lift the UEFA Super Cup.
