Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama undoubtedly affected the way AA Bondy writes music. His Southern gothic musical aesthetic is doleful and melancholy, but the way in which he sings his tunes is somehow comforting. It's almost like someone singing a nice song about the apocalypse: you know the subject matter is disheartening but you can still enjoy the music for what it is. Regardless of what Bondy sings about or of the lurid style in which he presents his songs, there's no denying the strong musical force that surrounds the folksy singer/songwriter and his soft, almost ballad-like, tunes.
