The Los Angeles-based pop/rock act Sparks was formed in 1968 as Halfnelson by brothers Ron and Russel Mael. The band released its self-titled debut in 1971 under the name Halfnelson, but after dissappointing sales changed its name to Sparks and signed a contracts with Warner Bros. Records. Sparks recorded and released A Woofer In Tweeter's Clothing, in 1972 and promoted the album on a tour of the UK during which a young, unknown band named Queen served as its opening act. Sparks' sound is an integration of glam rock, power pop, chamber pop and eventually EDM elements, after it reinvented itself as an electronic pop duo at the end of the 1970s. Though the Mael brothers have taken breaks from their music project to pursue film making, they have always come back to Sparks to record more material, including the band's 2009 album The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman.
