In 1995, the Atlanta based hip-hop outfit Goodie Mob released its debut LP, Soul Food - an album that helped write the book on how Southern rap should sound. The group coined the term "dirty South" and in its tunes, the band reflected on various themes that ranged from racism and discrimination to geo-politics and gentrification. The band's songs are loaded with finely produced samples as well as intelligent lyrics - helping the group to become one of the more conscious hip-hop outfits on the scene. Though the Goodie Mob disbanded for a period of time, the group still manages to play shows to audiences on occasion.
