Originally written in French by Florian Zeller, this tragicomedy deftly tackles the complexity of familial relationships and the shifting nature of reality in the face of dementia. The play offers a peek into the life of an aging patriarch, André, and his daughter, Anne, as they grapple with the day to day repercussions of his failing mental faculties. Zeller's lead characters are honest, realistic and relatable even as bursts of comic relief draw laughter from the audience. In 2014, The Father was awarded the prestigious Molière Award for Best Play, as well as a slew of other accolades over the following years. It has since been recreated across the world by various theater companies.
