This team originally began in 1995 as the Dakota Wizards and before the move to Santa Cruz in 2012, the club had spent time in both the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) and the brief IBA (International Basketball Association). The Warriors are named after their parent club, the Golden State Warriors and they use the same colors, namely royal blue, golden yellow and white. And just like the parent club, the Santa Cruz Warriors won its own title in 2014-15, when they swept the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the best-of-three D-League championship.
