San Jose hosts both the professional NHL Sharks as well as their affiliate, the Barracuda. Both teams play at the SAP Center and it is one of the only franchises in the AHL in which the parent and affiliate club share an arena. The Barracuda are one of several franchises that relocated to the West Coast during the Pacific Division expansion of 2014. Previously, the club's former incarnations were as the Worcester Sharks, Cleveland Barons and the Kentucky Thoroughblades.
