Combining modern folk with electronic music trends like trip-hop and electronica, Beth Orton was one of the most creative contributors to the wealth of popular mid-1990s female singer-songwriters. Though her first album PuperPinkyMandy, was released only in Japan in 1993, her second solo record Trailer Park, garnered much critical acclaim in 1996. Into the 2000s and beyond, Orton continues to craft her breezy brand of folktronica, punctuated by the occasional minor hit or appearance in film or television shows.
