Cat Power is the moniker of New York-based singer/songwriter Chan Marshall who rose to prominence in the early-1990s with a minimalist folk style that capitalized off sparse guitar and piano arrangements as well as Marshall's breathy vocals. The soft pop styles Cat Power is famous for are occasionally timid, but more often than not extremely heartfelt and self concerting. Opting to do somewhat of an about face with her 2012 LP, Sun, by incorporating more astute production methods as well as honed electronic elements, Marshall has demonstrated herself to be a musician capable of taking many different artistic paths.
