Shinedown is a hard rock band from Jacksonville, FL that was formed in 2001 with a sound heavily influenced by grunge and metal. In Los Angeles, the band recorded its debut with producer Bob Marlette, who had previously worked with Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and Saliva, and emerged with its first album, Leave a Whisper. When the record was released in 2003, Shinedown made an impression on both critics and fans for its no-frills alternative metal and southern rock-infused brand of hard rock. Though the band has experienced several lineup changes since its first record, it has consistently released new albums including 2008's The Sound of Madness, and 2012's Amaryllis.
