Robert Walter is a pianist from San Diego, California, who specializes in creating soul-infused jazz, particularly on the Hammond organ. After founding The Greyboy Allstars ensemble in the early 1990s, he helped pave the way for an entire generation of improvisational jazz bands with a funk format. By the end of the decade, Walter left the band to form Robert Walter's 20th Congress, which he led on his signature keyboard organ for the group's various albums, including the its 1999 debut, Health and Fitness. After relocating to New Orleans, where he submerged himself in the rich jazz culture, he released a couple of albums as leader, including the eponymous debut of Super Heavy Organ in 2005, before reviving the Greyboy Allstars in 2013 and hitting the road with the ensemble for the first time in over two decades.
