Saturday, February 19, 2022 to Thursday, March 31, 2022When Light Becomes Form: Processing PhotographyHow do we consider what makes a photograph in this time of merging and diverging technologies? Every photograph, regardless of format or process, begins with and can be simplified to being a product of light, time, and materiality – the recording of the image. When Light Becomes Form: Processing Photography explores a variety of unconventionally innovative, and sometimes antiquated, photographic techniques, and celebrates the subjectivity of the definition of photography. By reframing the way photography is traditionally presented, the exhibition highlights the way these ten artists tangibly shape light using the conceptual tool of time. Featuring Lisa K. Blatt, Rachelle Bussières, Adam Chin, Binh Danh, Chris Duncan, Amy Elkins, Kija Lucas, Felix Quintana, Ron Moultrie Saunders, and Andrew Wilson. This exhibition is supported by the Terra Foundation for American Art, and SFSU's Instructionally Related Student Activities Fund.Image credit: Andrew Wilson “Point of Departure” (2015-2021) cyanotype on cotton (detail)https://gallery.sfsu.edu/events/2022/02/19/945-when-light-becomes-form-processing-photographyIn accordance with the City of San Francisco's Vaccine Requirements, the Fine Arts Gallery will be requiring proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for all visitors ages 12 years and older and will accept the following forms of verification:· An original, a copy, or a picture of your CDC vaccination card· Documentation from a healthcare provider· Digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the State of CaliforniaMasks will be required at all times for those over 2 years old.San Francisco State University welcomes persons with disabilities and will provide reasonable accommodations upon request.
