Henry Kaiser is a guitarist and composer from Oakland, California whose long and prolific career as a musician has made him an icon of sorts on the San Francisco Bay Area music scene as well as being considered by many to be one of the first American free improvisers. Kaiser's career in the music business began in 1978 when he co-founded the Metalanguage Record Label with the intention to promote the experimental jazz genre, particularly free jazz and free improvisation. Following the gradual success of his label and collaborations with other musicians, Kaiser spent time in Madagascar, and more recently in Antarctica as an experiment to see how living on one of the most desolate continents on Earth can have an impact on the creation of art.
