The Colombian band Monsieur Perine sounds like it could be the house band for some Cuban casino during Havana's nefarious heyday in the early-20th Century. With sultry female vocals and use of instruments that are rare finds in today's forward-thinking and technologically adept music community, Monsieur Perine has managed to pioneer a unique sound for itself--helping it rise above and stick out from the myriad of other young bands that have emerged from South America in the past 10 years. With such a characteristic and slightly odd sonic aesthetic, it's difficult to imagine Monsieur Perine achieving much in terms of mainstream popularity, but as its touring schedule in 2012 has indicated--with a stop at the world renowned Austin, Texas-based music festival South by Southwest--it'll undoubtedly push the boundaries of what many perceive the band is capable of.
