Jennifer Hudson is a singer and actress from Chicago who first rose to prominence on the third season of the television show American Idol in 2004. Though she didn't win the competition, the exposure she received helped her land a role in the 2006 film Dreamgirls--a performance that ended up earning her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Shortly after winning the award, Hudson secured a recording contract and released her eponymously titled debut album in 2008. Her characteristic voice set to a blend of soul and R&B instrumentals managed to win listeners over and provide her with a fan base that considers Hudson to be one of the more prolific singers of her generation.
