Pass By: Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, 4002 Wallace St, San Diego, CA 92110

Known as the birthplace of California, Old Town was first established as a settlement in 1821 by a small group of Mexican settlers, and before that, the Spanish had set up their first California mission here in 1769. Today, Old Town features several museums that detail different aspects of local history. Casa de Aguirre offers displays on the life and traditions of early settlers; the Old Town State Historic Park delves into the Mexican-American relations from 1821 to 1872; and the hilltop Presidio Park showcases the Spanish mission built by Father Junípero Serra. For a touch of the district's modern features, check out boutiques, restaurants, events and entertainment.
