New York via San Diego boyfriend-girlfriend duo Cults initially had no intention of becoming a full-fledged band. The two film students turned to music as a fun distraction from school and a few months later put two songs up online to share with their friends. Somehow the songs circulated the internet and were awarded "Best New Music" titles by multiple prominent blogs, which then began to hunt down the band with such little information surrounding its name. Combining airy, retro RnB with tinkly instrumentation, the music is carefree, sweet and difficult to dislike, garnering the duo a contract with Columbia Records.
