Known today as the 'Mozart of Madras,' A.R. Rahman started his musical journey as a young boy assisting his father in his studio. He spent the initial years of his career performing with bands such as Roots and Nemesis Avenue, before earning mainstream success with his soundtrack for the film Roja. Since then, Rahman has ushered in a new wave of music known for the unique sound lent to it by the mix of Indian classical, folk, sufi and electronic music. Over the course of his career, he has worked with greats like M. S. Viswanathan, Ilaiyaraaja, Ramesh Naidu, Zakir Hussain, Michael Jackson and performed live with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The Padma Bhushan awardee has been the recipient of some of the most prestigious entertainment awards like National Film Awards, Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, BAFTA Award, the Golden Globe and Filmfare Awards. He was included on Time 100 list of the world's most influential people in 2009.
