Hair

After its Broadway debut in 1968, Hair broke musical theater boundaries by featuring a racially integrated cast and defining the rock musical genre. A product of 1960s counter-culture, the show features several songs that became anthems for the anti-Vietnam War peace movement and a generation of young adults inspired by the sexual revolution and rebellion against society. Originally produced off-Broadway in 1967, the story was toned down for a wider audience on Broadway but still illustrates the political activities of a group of young adults growing up in the midst of the most-protested war in American History. In addition to its famous nude scene, Hair includes an audience participatory "be-in" finale and performances of iconic songs such as "Aquarius" and "Good Morning Sunshine."
