Charlie Musselwhite is an American blues musician who's known for his distinctive harmonica playing as well as for being one of the only non-black bluesmen to arise in the early 1960s. Born in Mississippi, at the age of three, Musselwhite's family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he started learning from local musical figures how to play the harmonica. During this time in the early 1960s, many styles of music were popular with the youth market like rock n' roll, British invasion material and rockabilly, but Musselwhite pursued a career in the old style of blues music. After leaving Memphis for Chicago, to look for a good paying factory job, Musselwhite found himself hanging out on the South Side of the Windy City, where he met the acquaintanceship of legends like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy and Howlin' Wolf. These figures helped foster Musselwhite and land him a contract that'd help release his first LP in 1966, Stand Back! Here Comes Charley Musselwhite's Southside Band.
