Black Thought and Questlove, collectively known as The Roots, count among the most protean characters on the American music scene. They are known for their genre-bending jazzy hip hop music as well as for their house band duties on the popular TV show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Every June, The Roots host a music festival where they showcase their refreshingly broad music tastes. Past guests of the Roots Picnic include LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy and De La Soul. Of course, The Roots themselves also perform. The festival's permanent home is Philadelphia.
