Kery James is a French rapper. Born Alix Mathurin in West Indies, he moved to France as a kid and grew up in the commune of Orly. He started rapping at a young age and made his debut at the age of ten after being discovered by MC Solaar. A couple of years later, he joined the group Idéal J and gained recognition through singles like "La vie est brutale." After going on a hiatus following a personal loss, James returned to the scene in late 2001 with his debut solo album Si c'était à refaire. With autobiographical themes and introspective lyrics, the album marked a definitive shift from his previous works. Equally mature and successful was his second album Ma vérité, which tackled difficult issues, and featured artists like Mélanie Giorgadès. His popularity in mainstream music reached new heights following his collaboration with the legendary chanson star Charles Aznavour. Some of his most famous tracks include "Sans moi," "PLMV," "Piqué," "En sang ble," "Amal" and "Je m'écris."
