Hailing from the imaginary French village of Plechti, clad in retro-futuristic steam-punk garb and singing in a mixture of French, English, Serbian, Spanish, Romani and German, La Caravane Passe works hard to create an air of globe-trotting placelessness. This aesthetic is appropriate because the band's core sonic touchstone is traditional gypsy music, which they then pepper with hip-hop flourishes, modern rock instrumentation and a hefty dose of Balkan ska, creating music that's as gleefully as sonically rootless as its carefully constructed image.
