Over the years, music has seen various collisions of musical genres. Artists are constantly experimenting with combining musical styles to create original sounds. Emily Wells is an artist who has succeeded in creating a truly unique and lovely sound when she combined two of the most unlikely genres: classical and hip-hop. Wells is a classically-trained violinist and began playing at the mere age of four. Wells has broken away from her classical roots but has not forsaken her talent as a violinist. She layers and layers loops of her violin playing to create a one-woman symphony while drawing influences from hip-hop. Emily’s sound is incredibly dynamic and her voice is very versatile, often switching from melodic jazz vocals to rhythmic rapping. While she fuses classical and hip-hop a number of other genres like jazz take form in her compositions, making her a distinct artist that is hard to define.
