Born in Tokyo, Nikka Costa soon moved to the US with her father, notable record producer Don Costa, where she began an early career as a child pop singer. Departing from pop as she grew up, Costa aligned herself with throwback funk, soul and R&B instead. Taking a considerable risk for someone who got her start so young, Costa seems to be slowly capitalizing on her decision to take the road less traveled, accumulating a loyal following that will likely grow with time.
