A reception for the participating artists will happen on Saturday, August 10, from 2 to 4 pm.
Fused glass – glass which is formed under high temperature in a kiln - often is not as recognized as blown glass as an art form, This exhibition highlights the achievements of artists who have focused on this process. This selection of work brings to our audience a variety of approaches to fused glass which show the versatility of this medium.
Participants in this show are: Mojgan Saberi, Mark Schatz, Bruce Pizzichillo, Mark Goudy, Dana Zed, Zoe Mosko, Teddie Hathaway, Armelle Leroux, Julie Alland, Karl Hauser, Ann Kalb-Kip, Sylvia Chesson, Margo Scarpulla and Daniel Stauber. Manna Gallery partner Mark Lightfoot and juror Janet Hiebert will also be participating in this exhibition.
Janet Hiebert, our juror, brings many years of experience as a fused glass artist to her selection of work for this show. She received a BA in Studio Art from California State University East Bay (formerly Cal State Hayward) and went on to study drawing, painting and ceramics at California College of the Arts (formerly CCAC).
Her fascination with color and light led her to explore glass as a medium and for the past thirty years she has created both stained glass and fused and slumped glass art.
She has taught Stained Glass and Glass Fusing and Slumping in Bay Area art centers including Piedmont Adult School, Walnut Creek Civic Arts, Richmond Art Center and Stained Glass Garden. Currently she teaches in Oakland at Studio One Art Center and The Crucible, where she is the Glass Fusing and Slumping Department Head.
She coordinated the Studio One Art Center Gallery for six years, curating four to five exhibits each year. She has juried Stained Glass Garden competitive exhibitions as well as the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Craftswomen at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
Additionally, she has completed numerous stained glass commissions for private residences.
