Clan of Xymox is an electronic rock band from The Netherlands that was formed in 1981 under the name Xymox. With the release of its eponymous debut album in 1985, the band helped pioneer the moody hybrid of rock and synthpop known as darkwave. Clan of Xymox transitioned into an international audience with its 1989 album Twist of Shadow, which earned the band a cult following in the US, though the band's lineup became increasingly unstable. By the mid-1990s, with the departure of founders Anka Wolbert, Pieter Nooten and Frank Wyzig, the band had transitioned into more dance-oriented rock and finally began to adopt more gothic tendencies as Ronny Moorings took the reigns. Xymox continues to tour internationally and release new records such as 2012's Kindred Spirits.
