Joey DeFrancesco is a jazz musician from Springfield, Pennsylvania, who started playing music at the age of 6. By the time he was 17 years old, he was invited by Miles Davis to join his band and ended up touring Europe and recording the 1989 album Amandla with the jazz legend. At around the same time, he began to record his own material as band leader, though he rose to recognition during the 1990s as part of John McLaughlin's trio, Free Spirits. With over two dozen solo studio recordings, DeFrancesco is acknowledged as one of the preeminent organists of modern jazz.
