When four young musicians got together in 1989 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, no one expected the group to amount to much. But after the group started playing and recording material, the band's potential was understood. The group would decide to call itself Superchunk and by playing a unique form of no-frills DIY indie rock, it managed to define the Chapel Hill sound that was made popular by groups like Flat Duo Jets and Southern Culture on the Skids.
