The New York Pops is an independent symphonic pops orchestra based in New York City that is considered to be the largest of its kind in the world. Founded in 1986 by former NBC music director Skitch Henderson, in order to increase the public's awareness of America's musical heritage, the New York Pops has since done a great deal to bring the Great American Songbook to the attention of listener's throughout the world. The orchestra is featured regularly during Macy's annual 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular as well as many other celebrated events nationally and worldwide, The New York Pops is considered by many to not only be a uniquely American artistic institution, but an essential one at that.
