This iconic dance troupe was founded by dancer, choreographer, visionary and activist Alvin Ailey in 1958. With the intent of creating a unified school of modern movement that drew from dynamic and diverse artistic realms and Southern and Black cultural influences. Ailey's was one of the first troupes to feature a multi-racial corps of dancers, and it has grown to establish itself in the cornerstone of American dance. break down racial barriers within the concert dance world. Their work carries on Ailey's vision to this day, presenting world-class modern dancers performing vital choreographic works both canonical and new across the globe, carrying the spirit and mission of one of America's great artists.
