American musician Cory Wong was introduced to rock and jazz music at a young age and began learning the piano when he was just nine. Influenced by the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Primus, he took up bass and guitar lessons with the sole purpose of starting a punk rock band of his own. He started pursuing music professionally at the age of 20 and focussed on mostly jazz music through the late 2000s to the early 2010s. He released the albums Even Uneven and Quartet/Quintet in 2008 and 2012 respectively before embarking on a tour with singer-songwriter Ben Rector. His first interaction with the band Vulfpeck in 2013 led to a long-standing association and Wong has been a part of every Vulfpeck album ever since 2016. His 2018 solo album The Optimist reached the top 20 on the US jazz charts. Over the span of his career, he has collaborated with artists such as Dave Koz, Stay Human and Chris Thile.
